Overview
The Open Knowledge Foundation promotes open-source technologies and government open-data portals, and encourages stakeholders to use government data to increase the ability of citizens to make informed demands on government. This grant will support the Global Open Data Index to enable civil society organizations that use open data to improve community monitoring, advocacy, and journalism. Support will also be provided to strengthen the global network of Open Knowledge Communities.

The Open Knowledge Foundation promotes open-source technologies and government open-data portals, and encourages stakeholders to use government data to increase the ability of citizens to make informed demands on government. This grant would strengthen their School of Data program, which provides basic technology training to a broad audience. Support would also be provided to the OpenSpending project, a one-stop shop for budget information for many countries.
