Overview
Yen a Marre (We are fed up or Enough is Enough) was initiated as a popular citizen movement against injustice and inequality in Senegal in January 2011 by a collective of rappers, artists, journalists, students, intellectuals, and members of other socioprofessional groups. Yen a Marre is an experienced grassroots national network working on diverse topics including citizenship, citizen participation, transparency in public affairs management, and youth and womens leadership. It has focused on mobilizing citizens, especially young people to convince government authorities to consider the peoples priorities as their own priorities. This project grant will allow Yen a Marre to continue building its Good Governance and Democracy Observatory, Dox ak sa Gox (walking with your community), encouraging citizen participation in local governance. It will allow grassroots civil society activists, community-based organizations, and social movements working on local governance and citizen participation to have a space for exchange with local authorities, and technical and financial partners on the progress and challenges of effective and meaningful participation of youth, women, and vulnerable groups in Senegal, through the use of social media and new media.
