Overview
We Own It runs a national network for rural electric cooperative members. The program is focused on good governance reforms and trainings on member rights. Nationally, there are more than 800 electric co-ops, from which more than 42 million Americans buy roughly $41 billion worth of electricity each year. These co-ops currently rely predominately on coal-fired power, but could be providing their members with cheaper and cleaner energy by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency. We Own It’s national network provides peer to peer learning for co-op board members, as well as access to governance and energy experts.
