Grants to this Grantee
for development of pedestrian safety policies
Founded in 1998, Walk San Francisco promotes walking as a safe and sustainable form of transportation and seeks to improve San Francisco's walking environment by educating residents, city agencies, and elected officials regarding the need for more pedestrian friendly streets. The two key goals for this grant are: 1) to educate policy makers about the importance of adopting and implementing a Pedestrian Action Plan with clear targets and timelines to increase walking, reduce crashes and systematically redesign the city's streets to favor sustainable transportation; and 2) to encourage the creation of safe speed zones (15 miles per hour) around all the city's schools.

Walk SF promotes walking as a safe and sustainable form of transportation and seeks to improve San Francisco’s walking environment by educating residents, city agencies, and elected officials about the need for more pedestrian friendly streets. During this grant period, Walk San Francisco would focus on three priorities: (1) development of a San Francisco Pedestrian Action Plan that will increase walking; (2) promotion of Green Connections, a collaboration to define and map a citywide network of walking routes that connect low income areas and enable residents to walk to open space; and, (3) creation of School Zones with safer speed zones (15 mph) around all schools in the city.
