Overview
Walk SF Foundation promotes walking as a safe and sustainable form of transportation, and seeks to improve San Francisco’s walking environment by educating residents, city agencies, and policymakers about the need for more pedestrian-friendly streets. During this grant period, Walk SF Foundation will focus on three primary strategies: (a) Vision Zero, to redesign particularly unsafe streets and intersections, increasing pedestrian safety; (b) increasing walking and walkability; and (c) Safe Routes to Schools, which promotes events to increase students and families to regularly walk, bike, and use public transportation to go to school and back. Many of the city’s most dangerous and heavily trafficked streets are in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods. By making the environment safer for walking and biking in these areas, Walk SF Foundation improves quality of life and reduces pedestrian injuries and deaths.
