Overview
The National Academy of Education is a nonprofit organization that supports the development of high-quality research to improve education policy and practice. This grant will fund a new initiative to advance research in civic learning and student engagement by ensuring that the best available evidence informs pedagogy, curriculum, and learning environments. This work will advance deeper learning by building a sustainable, interdisciplinary research infrastructure that will aid in understanding and teaching the complexities of civic education and the skills necessary for successful civic engagement in a democratic society.

The group recently published “Civic Reasoning and Discourse: Perspectives from Learning and Human Development Research.” The findings and recommendations offer insights for advancing deeper learning opportunities in our public schools.
