Overview
This grant will support the participation of civil society organizations in a multi-stakeholder process to set voluntary emissions standards for the international steel industry. Civil society organizations do not always have the resources to participate in industrial standard setting bodies. This will allow their participation. Direct and indirect industrial emissions now account for 36% of global CO2 emissions. Steel production is the largest single source within that category. Some of the world’s largest steelmakers and steel users are participating in this process — such as ArcelorMittal, BlueScope Steel, and Daimler. These companies would then adopt these voluntary standards.
