Overview
San Jose Unified is a large, urban K-12 school district in California that serves 33,000 students of diverse backgrounds, including 49% of children who are designated as low income, 55% as underrepresented minorities, and 23% as English learners. Through its Transformation School Redesign initiative the district will pilot three school models to deliver improved deeper learning outcomes to schoolchildren. Increased capacity and experience with deeper learning provision by a district in the Bay area provides local models for the foundation’s national agenda and helps to identify address issues related to scaling reform to all schools within a district.
