The Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) promotes the creation, exhibition, and distribution of new films and videos that address the vital social justice issues that concern queer women of color and their communities, authentically reflect their life stories, and build community through art and activism. The organization reaches more than 2,000 people locally through its filmmaker training program, annual film festival, and curatorial services—as well as thousands more nationally and internationally. During the grant period, QWOCMAP plans to continue to develop online filmmaker training modules, increase income from its distribution program, and boost festival attendance.

The Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP), is dedicated to developing the skills and leadership of queer women, gender variant people, and transgender people of color, through film making, presentation, and media distribution. QWOCMAP’s filmmaking classes provide training, coaching, and equipment for shared use, and since 2000, have supported the creation more than 450 films. QWOCMAP’s annual film festival typically premieres more than 30 films each year. This grant to QWOCMAP supports the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

The Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) creates, exhibits, and distributes films that authentically reflect the lives of queer women of color, gender variant, and transgender people of color. QWOCMAP’s continued efforts address the vital, intersecting social justice issues that concern multiple communities. Each year, the organization provides an in-depth training program for community members to become filmmakers through its no-cost Filmmaker Training Program. In addition, it draws more than 2,000 people to its free annual film festival, and distributes and screens QWOCMAP films throughout the world. Renewed funding will help the organization sustain its programs, grow staff and board capacity, and develop new artistic collaborations.
