Profamilia

For Increasing Reproductive Health Care In Puerto Rico In Response To The Zika Outbreak

Overview
This grant will support the Family Planning Association of Puerto Rico, or Profamilia, to respond to the Zika crisis by ensuring all women can access the birth control and abortion services they need. Zika is an urgent public health crisis in Puerto Rico. It has been projected that between 5,900 and 10,300 pregnant women will contract Zika in Puerto Rico. Yet women in Puerto Rico have not had access to the full range of birth control methods, particularly the most effective long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, and high poverty rates make it difficult for women to afford abortions. With this grant, Profamilia will be able to provide the full range of services regardless of women’s ability to pay.
