The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University focuses on creating a next-generation education system. The institute will develop MOOCs as effective professional development for educators and conduct research on the potential of these courses to provide cost-effective professional learning for large numbers of educators. This project addresses the critical need to prepare the nation’s educators to focus on students’ deeper learning skills and dispositions and to develop personalized, technology-enhanced approaches that enable students to become deep learners.

for the Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) Professional Development evaluation
The mission of the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at North Carolina State University’s College of Education is to advance education through innovation in teaching, learning, and leadership. It proposes a project to develop and run six MOOCs to help teachers implement the new Common Core State Standards with fidelity to deeper learning. This project will support development of the MOOCs and an in-depth evaluation of their impact on teacher practice. Research funded through this grant would advance innovative, highly scalable forms of teacher professional development.
