Overview
The New Venture Fund created the Western Energy Project to reduce the impacts of fossil energy development on Western public lands. This grant would support the Western Energy Project's efforts to ensure the Department of Interior adopts a final oil shale plan in 2012 limiting any oil shale activities in the West to research rather than development. To accomplish this goal Western Energy Project will enlist diverse spokespeople in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to speak out on the impacts of oil shale development to water, air and habitat, secure broad media coverage and counter the claims of industry that oil shale is commercially viable.
