Overview
Salmon supports a substantial part of Alaska’s economy, helps maintain subsistence fishing rights, and provides recreational fishing opportunities. The New Venture Fund’s Salmon State program seeks to secure state and federal policies in Alaska to protect the most important salmon spawning watersheds in the state necessary to support the state’s economy and the rights of Native Alaskans. The program will engage scientists; educate state and federal decision makers on its findings; and build support among commercial and sport fishermen, Native American tribes, and the public.
