Overview
We recommend a grant to Native Movement to support the Black Mesa Water Coalition (BMWC) Project. Advocacy by BMWC is aimed at advancing clean energy goals within the Navajo Nation. BMWC will work with other Native American and mainstream NGO partners to strengthen regional partnerships and improve the communications needed to transition from dependence on coal to renewal energy. For example, BMWC will help to shape the agenda for the Navajo Green Economy Commission and and the Just Transition Alliance. Ultimately, BMWC aims to see the establishment of solar energy projects of at least 20MW, but potentially up to 200MW, that will improve both economic and environmental outcomes.
