Overview
La Pocha Nostra is a San Francisco-based performing arts company, spearheaded by artistic director and performer, Guillermo Gomez-Peña. La Pocha Nostra seeks to erase borders between art and politics, practice and theory, artist and spectator, creating performances that speak to the lives of Chicanos, Latinos, and marginalized people throughout the world. La Pocha Nostra provides an artistic home for a network of artists from various disciplines, generations, and backgrounds. The organization builds upon its presence in a given community through performing arts workshops, artist camps, and university residencies. Each year, La Pocha Nostra performs for nearly 10,000 audience members, locally, nationally, and internationally, ranging from solo readings to large scale productions featuring its troupe members. A grant to La Pocha Nostra will support its efforts to build operational capacity and expand its local performance season.
