Integrity Action

Integrity Action is a U.K.-based NGO working to empower citizens to demand openness and accountability from governments, service providers, and contractors. This grant will support a proof-of-concept project to empower local civic groups and citizen monitors at the county level in Kenya, to track whether government contractors and service providers are completing planned public works and service improvements on time and within quality standards. In addition, Integrity Action will make information about their performance — any problems that arise, and whether these are fixed — visible to the public and government authorities through an online platform called DevelopmentCheck.

Integrity Action seeks to empower citizens to demand openness and accountability from governments, service providers, and donor agencies. Integrity Action works to support citizen feedback reported on an open platform on government and donor projects, and help citizens work together with responsible authorities to solve problems. Integrity Action uses data from its online platform, DevelopmentCheck, to learn whether this type of constructive engagement contributes to timely resolution of these problems. Integrity Action seeks to learn if open citizen feedback in turn leads to changes in incentives, rules, policies, norms, and behaviors that increase public integrity.
