Instituto para la Seguridad y la Democracia, A.C.

For A Training Program For Journalists On Justice Reform, Presumption Of Innocence, And Due Process

Overview
Founded in 2004, Instituto para la Seguridad y la Democracia (Institute for Security and Democracy) is a policy research center specializing in justice and police reform in Mexico. In partnership with Institución Renace, also a Hewlett Foundation grantee, the organization has promoted implementation of Mexico’s justice reform. The Institute is poised to take advantage of the unprecedented attention generated by the documentary Presumed Guilty, especially among a network of journalists it has cultivated for years. Using the film, this grant will allow the Institute to support a variety of training activities for journalists to raise awareness about the relevance of using justice reform principles for their reporting work, thus enhancing their ability to place the information they produce within a framework in which presumption of innocence, due process, and privacy rights are preserved.
