Overview
The Global Initiative for Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) is a multi-stakeholder network working to improve fiscal transparency, engagement, and accountability in countries around the world. Over the past year, GIFT has engaged a core set of institutions that have the potential to set and implement more rigorous global standards for fiscal transparency. Key GIFT stakeholders include the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as well as representatives of individual governments, civil society organizations, and foundations (including Hewlett). GIFT’s approach includes developing norms and standards, identifying incentives to ensure compliance with these standards, providing technical assistance to help governments meet the standards, and encouraging the use of technologies to facilitate more transparent and participatory budget decision making.
