Overview
The Center proposes to create a comprehensive system to (1) diagnose a high school's capability to prepare all its students for college, (2) prescribe changes to achieve this goal, (3) assess students on deeper learning, (4) redesign classes to align with college readiness standards and emphasize deeper learning, and (5) create strong partnerships between secondary and postsecondary institutions leading to more students being prepared for college-level work.

Grants to this Grantee
for a review of alignment between grantee instructional materials and deeper learning skills
The Educational Policy Improvement Center will review materials produced by the Student Achievement Partners (SAP), Achieve, and Illustrative Math to assess alignment between the instructional materials and curriculum rubrics and review documents developed by these grantees and the deeper learning competencies.
for support of an executive transition and development of a three-year strategic plan
The Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) is a nonprofit that conducts policy-related research studies, develops practical tools and techniques, and assists schools and districts to support improvement in college- and career-readiness for students. As EPIC transitions from its founder to a new executive director, this Organizational Effectiveness grant will enable it to develop a three-year strategic plan to shift more toward implementing its research ideas with school systems, create key performance indicators, and help achieve long-term stability. EPIC’s special focus on high school/college alignment around deeper learning outcomes is well-aligned with the Foundation’s goals.
for general operating support
With renewed support, the Educational Policy Improvement Center will continue its work with state agencies, nongovernmental organizations, school districts, and networks to conduct research, develop programs and tools to implement academic standards for college readiness, and develop and scale tests of deeper learning.
