Overview
Diakonia is the joint international development organization of two Swedish churches. Its overall goal is to change the unjust political, economic, social, and cultural structures that generate poverty, inequality, oppression, and violence. Diakonia works with the most vulnerable people, local partners, and other strategic actors for the realization of the right of all to live in dignity, regardless of age, class, disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, political belief, or religion. This grant will allow Diakonia to implement the recommendations of the mid-term evaluation of its Burkina Faso program on “Strengthening citizen engagement and government accountability in the universal health coverage policy implementation.” (Strategy: Inclusive Governance)

Diakonia is a Swedish charitable organization that works to educate people living in poverty and other marginalized groups about their rights and supports community organizing to claim those rights. Through this grant, Diakonia and its partners will continue implementing the Universal Health Insurance policy monitoring and oversight program in Burkina Faso and establish formal partnerships and framework for dialogue between key stakeholders including the National Universal Health Insurance Fund and Agency, citizen monitoring committees, delegated management organizations and the Ministry of Public Service, Labour, and Social Protection. Diakonia works with the most vulnerable people, local partners, and other strategic actors for the realization of the right of all to live in dignity, regardless of age, class, disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, political belief, or religion. This grant will allow Diakonia, which has been a key player in promoting good governance, citizen participation, and democracy in Burkina Faso, to leverage its role as a catalyst for civil society action synergies, for active and responsible citizen participation, as well as for the strategic strengthening and positioning of feminist and youth movements in the country.
