Code for America

Code for America works shoulder to shoulder with community organizations and governments to build digital tools and services, change policies, and improve programs. Working at the intersection of technology and government, its vision is to create a government that works for the people, by the people, in the new digital age. This grant supports Code for America’s work on the IRS’ Direct File implementation.

Founded in 2010, Code for America offers technical talent and expertise to city governments through its fellowship programs. In coordination with city leaders, innovative designers and developers use technology to provide more efficient, effective solutions to problems within government functions. Ideas, applications, and lessons learned are then shared with other cities. With support from the Hewlett Foundation, Code for America would continue its current operations and support the fast pace of growth and demand for its services.
