Overview
Chinese Cultural Productions, a dance ensemble created by choreographer Lily Cai and composer Gang Situ, originates risk-taking contemporary art that is firmly rooted in Chinese cultural traditions and reflects the East-meets-West aspect of Chinese American life in San Francisco. Reaching more than 15,000 people annually through a home season and national tours, the organization also provides educational programming at its dance academy and in public schools with high populations of Chinese American students, offering performance demonstrations of Chinese music and culture for 2,500 San Francisco youth. Renewed support will enable the organization to continue artistic programs while it prepares for a 2017 lease negotiation for its dance studio, located in the competitive real estate market of San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood.

Reaching more than 12,000 audience members annually, the organization produces an annual home season and conducts national tours. Through its arts education program in public schools with high populations of Chinese American students, the ensemble provides performance demonstrations of Chinese music and culture for more than 4,000 San Francisco youth. With a new studio in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, Chinese Cultural Productions has launched a dance academy and plans to perform intimate works in the space.
