Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Founded in 1989, the Center for Public Integrity is one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonpartisan, nonprofit investigative news organizations. The Center’s mission is "to enhance democracy by revealing abuses of power, corruption and betrayal of trust by powerful public and private institutions, using the tools of investigative journalism." A grant for general operating support would allow the Center to continue its investigations of issues including money in politics, national security, and environmental justice, among other areas. This grant is to some extent exploratory as we decide whether or how to treat such nonprofit media within the democracy rubric.
for national security reporting
A grant to the Center for Public Integrity would allow it to expand its new national security desk, a "beat" that provides comprehensive, in-depth coverage of national security issues that currently does not exist elsewhere. Since 2011, the Center has supplied timely and well-informed coverage of nonproliferation issues and spending on nuclear programs to major news outlets such as the BBC, Washington Post, and NPR.
