for support of the Right to Information Program
This grant will support the Right to Information Program at Article 19’s Mexico office to (a) continue the work with women in indigenous communities in the state of Chiapas to exercise their right of access to information as a tool to demand social accountability, expand to the state Yucatan, and pilot in an urban context in the state of Nuevo Leon; (b) publish the fourth edition of the report on the right to information at the state level; (c) increase the openness of appointment processes to key positions for the protection of human rights; and (d) pursue strategic litigation to improve implementation of access to information laws.
for the development of Mexico's Open Government Partnership action plan
This grant will support a core group of civil society organizations (CSOs) — previously chairs of the Tripartite Technical Secretariat of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Mexico — to accomplish these important tasks: develop a shadow report to monitor implementation of the third national action plan; support local open government processes by developing standards and providing capacity-building workshops; participate in OGP discussion forums nationally, regionally, and internationally; and coordinate experts and CSOs to develop public policy ideas to regulate governmental surveillance in Mexico.
for the development of Mexico's Open Government Partnership action plan
This grant will allow the chair of the Mexican civil society group of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Mexico, Article 19, to guarantee a more inclusive, effective, independent, and innovative participation of civil society groups in OGP. As chair of the civil society group, Article 19 seeks to develop an action plan and monitoring mechanism for higher impact commitments and for a gender perspective, monitor the creation of local action plans, and build an effective communications strategy for the civil society group.
