Overview
Ballet San Jose provides high quality theatrical ballet performances to almost 120,000 audience members annually, and reaches 400 young students in its Ballet School. Artistically sound, the organization struggles to remain financially viable, and is heavily reliant upon loans and gifts from a single donor and governed by a three-member board, making the ballet very vulnerable as it operates without a strategic plan and practical deficit-reduction scenarios that can be implemented to strengthen the organization’s bottom line and reduce the dependence on one primary source of revenue. In view of this precarious perch, a two-year tie-off grant is recommended to provide support for the ballet’s education and outreach programs.
