Overview
The revision of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) framework in 2015 provides a unique opportunity to institutionalize learning as the metric of success for basic education by re-orienting the education goals to measure more than school enrollment and completion. Regional advocates could have a strong influence on the MDG revision process, but to date few have been resourced and mobilized. This grant would allow the Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC) to influence the process of global agenda setting from the perspective of the Asia-Pacific region by advocating for the new MDG framework to include a developmentally appropriate learning goal and indicator. ARNEC has strong organizational ties to UNESCO and UNICEF, which are the driving forces for education in the post 2015 MDG agenda, and would bring to the MDG review and revision process the thinking and evidence of a regional development network that covers 47 countries.
