Overview
The Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) brings together 43 civil society organizations and think tanks across 22 countries in Africa to promote the right of access to public information; freedom of expression; and open government through research, capacity building, and coordinated advocacy. The center provides leadership and technical support to member organizations to develop and implement country action plans to enhance citizens’ access to public information. AFIC’s 2021-25 strategic plan, Access to Information: The Bridge to Sustainable Development, aims to empower everyone, especially the most disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in Africa — women, people with disabilities, displaced persons, and youth — to access the information they need to exercise all their rights and achieve their full potential. (Strategy: Inclusive Governance)
