Overview
ShujaazFM is a mass communications initiative to reach millions of youth across Kenya, linking story lines, characters, and social change messages across media platforms that include comic books, radio shows, text messages, and other social media. Over the next three years, ShujaazFM will focus on four interconnected themes: civic engagement, health, agriculture, and jobs. The stories will both encourage youth to be active change agents and share practical information, such as how to navigate the public medical system and find affordable quality family planning services. With near universal urban and rural coverage, this program will test a model for social transformation that disseminates strategies for improving young Kenyans’ social and economic well-being and for empowering them to take greater responsibility for their futures.

for the Shujaaz youth communications and social change initiative
Shujaaz is a mass communications initiative to reach millions of youth across Kenya and Tanzania by linking story lines, characters, and social change messages across media platforms that include comic books, radio shows, text messages, and social media. Building on their 2015 research on youth attitudes toward Kenya’s governance and political decentralization process, this grant will support Shujaaz’s effort to deliver targeted content among segmented audiences to influence youth perceptions, conversations and engagement about government, active citizenship, and potential roles for youth.
