Overview
One of the first grants ever awarded by the Performing Arts Program was to KQED, and over the years, the Foundation has provided significant support to this public television station serving the greater Bay Area. Most recently, the Foundation provided a total of $2.5 million to launch the SPARK television series (ended in 2008). Now with a new strategic plan, KQED seeks to realize the potential of multiple media platforms to reinvent it's local and regional arts programming. With support from Hewlett, KQED will contract with two consultants (arts and education), conduct field research to identify gaps in their Arts Service Plan, compare programming to public media organization in other major markets, and develop a demonstration program that is multiple platform (television, web, handheld devices, smart phones)

The California Report is the top-rated, daily, statewide news radio and podcast report produced by KQED for California audiences. This is a sponsorship grant to support The California Report's program in general, and maintains editorial independence for the newsroom.
for support of the MindShift blog and digital reporting platform
KQED informs and engages the public in California and nationwide with trustworthy journalism about key issues of community concern. This grant will support the growth of MindShift, a KQED digital reporting vertical that examines important developments and exciting practices in teaching and learning. This work advances the foundation’s Education Program goals of lifting up new exemplars of teacher practice, fostering new knowledge about transforming education systems, and providing a platform for new voices in our discourse about public education.
