Flora Hewlett Birdzell

Flora Hewlett Birdzell holds a firm belief in the dignity of all people and places high value on nurturing, growing, and connecting communities. Her beliefs and values inspired her formal study (Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Harvard, 2003; Master of Public Policy, University of California at Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy, 2005; Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, California State University, Los Angeles, 2013) and also influence her day-to-day life as a mother of three children.

Flora focuses primarily on the work of parenting her daughter and twin sons with her husband Andrew, volunteering much of her available time to her children’s schools and personal and family philanthropy. She has been a family council member of the Flora Family Foundation since its inception in 1999. Her years of involvement have taken her to Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and have also given her opportunities to learn and focus on issues close to home in the Los Angeles area. Since 2016, she has been a member of the X Fund in Los Angeles, a giving circle at the Liberty Hill Foundation that makes annual grants to nonprofit organizations that enable women and girls to reach their potential, strive for economic justice, and live free of discrimination and violence. Flora enjoys being outside and is an avid long-distance walker and hiker.
