Edit Ruano

Edit Ruano is a Communications Officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, providing strategic communications partnership across a range of issues and initiatives. In particular, she works closely with the foundation’s Environment Program on external communications and provides counsel to the program on communications-related grantmaking.

Edit is a seasoned communicator who brings to Hewlett experience working on environmental issues and with nonprofits and philanthropy, as well as skills in strategic communications, media relations, inclusive storytelling, and grassroots engagement. She previously served as senior director of advocacy communications at The Wilderness Society, where she led a team of communicators working across the U.S. to protect public lands and make them accessible to all. Her prior experience includes Pivotal Ventures, Melinda French Gates’ investment and incubation company, where she served in an embedded role as senior program communications manager, as well as Spitfire Strategies and Full Court Press Communications, two agencies where she advised leading nonprofits, foundations, researchers and advocacy organizations.

Edit spent much of her early childhood in Mexico and grew up in rural Northern California. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science at the University of California, Davis. Edit believes everything old is new again, spending her free time restoring the honor of dusty furniture, tarnished baubles, and tired one-liners.
