Benno Dorer is a German citizen with more than 30 years of experience leading global businesses in the consumer and retail industry.
His professional career culminated in roles as chairman and CEO at The Clorox Company, a large multinational consumer packaged goods firm based in Oakland, California, and as interim president and CEO at VF Corporation, a leading global apparel and footwear company headquartered in Denver, Colorado.
Clorox more than doubled total shareholder return during the six years of his CEO tenure, significantly outperforming its peer group.
Benno’s leadership experience also includes board and advisory roles with General Mills, VF Corporation, the Wella Company, Origin Materials, KKR & Co. Inc., and global management roles with The Procter & Gamble Company.
Benno’s core belief is that companies should create value to all of their stakeholders and also serve the greater good. Under his leadership, Clorox was named most trusted company and one of the most sustainable companies in the U.S., ranked as one of the best managed U.S. companies by The Wall Street Journal, and also named one of the country’s best places to work for women and minorities.
He was named Highest Rated CEO in the U.S. in 2017 based on employee ratings by Glassdoor, selected as one of the U.S.’s most innovative CEOs by Forbes Magazine, and named CEO of the Year by Out & Equal, America’s premier organization in support of workplace equality (an honor also bestowed upon Billie Jean King and Steve Jobs).
Benno has lived in four countries and has called the United States home for more than 20 years. He resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his family and is dedicated to philanthropy through his family foundation with his wife and through nonprofit board work for organizations such as the American Academy in Berlin, Germany.
Most importantly, he loves being a husband and dad.
