Overview
Young Musicians Choral Orchestra is a nationally recognized East Bay youth program for low-income, underprivileged students of color, which provides a robust combination of musical training, academic reinforcement, and personal development. The no-cost program serves 70 students through an educational foundation in orchestra, jazz, and choral music. Students from the program matriculate into and excel at premiere conservatories and universities. In the last two years, 100 percent of its graduating seniors have continued on to post-secondary institutions. A renewal of the organization’s grant will allow for key operational support during its strategic planning period.

Grants to this Grantee
for general operating support
Young Musicians Choral Orchestra provides musical training, academic reinforcement, and personal development opportunities for low-income, underserved students from four Bay Area counties. Each year, the no-cost program provides over 60 students with education, training, and performance opportunities in orchestra, choir, jazz, dance and movement, and music production. Support of the Young Musicians Choral Orchestra aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy, through the Program Delivery substrategy.
for general operating support
Young Musicians Choral Orchestra (YMCO) is a nationally recognized orchestral, jazz and choral music training program for low-income youth of color. Paired with academic coaching, students from the program matriculate into and excel at the premiere conservatories and universities in the United States. YMCO has taken a bold path during the past two years, becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization independent from UC Berkeley, where the program was incubated. Renewed support for YMCO would provide the opportunity for the organization to maintain its programming and to engage in strategic and financial planning.
