Overview
In recognition of the Hewlett Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions initiative supports the creation and premiere of 50 exceptional works of performing arts. This grant will support "The Limp" (working title), a hip-hop theater performance with music and verse that explores sexual harassment and abuse. The Yerba Buena Center will present the world premiere of "The Limp" in the San Francisco Bay Area no later than December 2021.

San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, known as YBCA, is a multidisciplinary arts center dedicated to developing and presenting performances, exhibitions, lectures, civic engagement activities, and festivals. YBCA also supports individual artists with funding, professional development opportunities, and opportunities to present their work. Each year, the organization presents over 190 performances, classes, lectures, exhibitions, screenings, and community programs, drawing audiences of over 23,000 in person, and 80,000 virtually. This grant to the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, known as YBCA, is a multi-disciplinary arts center dedicated to developing and presenting performances, exhibitions, lectures, civic engagement activities, and festivals. YBCA also supports individual artists with funding, professional development opportunities, and opportunities to present their work. In a typical year, YBCA offers more than 120 performances, and draws audiences of more than 75,000 to its theaters and galleries. Support for YBCA advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) is a large, multidisciplinary arts center located in downtown San Francisco. It produces and presents performances, exhibitions, lectures, festivals, and screenings — reaching more than 76,000 people through the roughly 120 performances it offers each year. YBCA appeals to audiences from all over the region through its adventurous commissions; community rentals of presenting space; community engagement initiatives; and YBCA 100 list, which recognizes leading artists, leaders, and activists that are using creativity to enact change. Renewed program funding will support the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ Performances Program. Support for Yerba Buena Center for the Arts advances the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
