Overview
Yerba Buena Arts and Events animates the open public spaces of the Yerba Buena Garden complex in downtown San Francisco, presenting music, theater, dance, spoken word, cultural, educational, and children’s programs reflecting the rich cultures and creativity of the region. Between May and October, the festival presents nearly 100 programs, all admission free and serving more than 120,000 audience members annually. The organization has a commissioning and residency program in which some of the nation’s most accomplished playwrights, composers, and choreographers create new works. A grant renewal will support professional development for staff, all performances and commissions, expanded marketing efforts, and continued financial stability.

The organization serves more than 47,000 people each year with over 80 presentations of music, theater, dance, and spoken word, and with programs for children, which reflect the Bay Area’s rich cultural diversity, traditions, and creativity. It also supports the professional development of artists by commissioning new works and co-presenting in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. Support for Yerba Buena Arts and Events aligns with the Performing Arts Program’s Communities strategy.
