Overview
This grant will support the establishment of three city hubs in Mexico City, Mexico; Dakar, Senegal; and Accra, Ghana, as part of Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing’s Focal Cities Program. The objective of this program is to increase the representation and power of membership-based organizations so that they can more effectively interact with city governments to promote policy changes that directly benefit women’s livelihoods.

This grant will support Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing’s (WIEGO’s) organizational priorities during the grant period, including program planning and coordination to support representation of membership-based organizations in policymaking bodies; develop statistics on the informal economy; address laws and regulations that disadvantage and penalize informal workers; and develop research and advocacy with organizations of informal workers to engage in debates such as social protection and urban policies. During the grant period, WIEGO also expects to strengthen its communications strategy, fill key staff positions, and update its membership and network systems.
