Overview
Because Colorado is considered the regional center for the intermountain West, decision makers in Washington, particularly in the Department of the Interior, pay close attention to how state officials react to fossil energy development decisions on public lands. In New Mexico, a new senator with a background in conservation promises to be supportive of agency decisions to limit fossil energy development and provide added protections for public land. This grant would focus on building decision-maker leadership for public lands conservation in Colorado and New Mexico through communications, outreach, and education aimed at a broad constituency.
