For the Reading Apprenticeship model of academic literacy instruction
WestEd’s Strategic Literacy Initiative (SLI) is a high-school teacher professional development program that specializes in subject-specific complex literacy skills and motivational partnerships for at-risk kids. This grant will scale up SLI’s research-backed program dramatically across four states.
Hewlett’s $1.5 M grant leverages $18 million in federal stimulus (i3) funds and an additional $2.1M in grants from partner foundations. It also marks a tremendous coordinated effort across the funding community and strong Hewlett leadership toward greater transparency in the field of philanthropy.
