Overview
In recognition of the Hewlett Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the Hewlett 50 Arts Commissions initiative supports the creation and premiere of 50 exceptional works of performing arts. This grant will support the Vietnamese American Non-Governmental Organization Network in commissioning, developing, and presenting “Mekong: LIFE” by musician and composer Vân-Ánh Võ with the support of collaborating artists, scholars, and climate scientists. “Mekong: LIFE” will use traditional and electronic music and multimedia elements to explore how climate change has impacted the cultures of the five countries through which the Mekong River flows: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar.
