Overview
The District Leadership Design Lab, located in the College of Education, University of Washington, partners with school districts to redesign their central offices to tackle inequality in education. They do so by providing access to the latest knowledge about what central offices do to support improvement at scale and by leveraging this knowledge to design new policies and practices. Studies of these design efforts provide guidance to the field. This grant supports the Design Lab’s efforts to transform the central operations of a new cohort of districts as they seek to create systemic improvements in teaching and learning. for leadership practice trajectories for transformed and equitable schools
The University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership works with education leaders to create empowering and equitable school experiences for students. This grant supports research on the practices of school leaders in two areas: how they observe and analyze classroom instruction and how they use these observations to design professional learning experiences for teachers. From this research, the Center will develop new professional learning strategies for school principals and other school leaders. As such, this grant advances the Education Program’s priorities of growing new exemplars of teacher practice, new knowledge about transforming education systems, new voices in discourse about public education and new conversations about teaching and learning.
