This grant provides funding for a communications strategy to support the launch of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report. This includes support that is focused directly on enhancing the ability of the IPCC, its secretariat, working groups, and report authors to communicate the crucial work of the IPCC. The U.N. Foundation is the fiscal sponsor for the U.S. Climate Alliance, a bipartisan group of 24 U.S. states, led by their governors, committed to advancing leading-edge climate policies, including driving collaborative, multistate action that helps stimulate economic growth across multiple industries. Alliance states represent more than 60% of U.S. GDP, 55% of the U.S. population, and 40% of U.S. emissions. Recent analysis shows that the U.S. can reach its goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030 only through joint federal, state, and business action. (Substrategy: U.S. National Policy)
for improved data related to women’s economic empowerment
With this project grant, the United Nations Foundation (UNF) will continue its work to analyze and compile existing data and identify data gaps related to key areas of women’s empowerment, as a core technical contribution to the Data 2X initiative announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2012. Leading a group of technical experts, UNF will identify data gaps that hinder gender-inclusive policy development. A near-term policy focus will be on establishing data requirements for the post-2015 international goal framework. With ongoing input from the advisory group, UNF will develop a plan of action that defines options for collecting and analyzing new and existing data for policy formulation and will identify opportunities for private-public sector engagement and collaboration.

UNF will collaborate with the Post-2015 High-Level Panel process to provide recommendations from the draft plan to action.
