The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is dedicated to building peace, sustainable development, and intercultural dialogue through the fields of education, natural and social sciences, culture, communication, and information. This grant supports the 2nd OER World Congress, which will examine progress in implementing the Paris OER Declaration of 2012 and share strategies among stakeholders, regions, and institutions on mainstreaming OER into global education systems. This work furthers the Education Program’s goal of building the OER field and supporting policies favorable for OER adoption and use at the international level.

for international OER capacity building
As mentioned in our budget memo, this project proposes to continue the momentum gained during the World OER Congress by implementing OER projects at the secondary and tertiary levels in four regions: Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, and the Arab States. UNESCO proposes a series of regional workshops to support OER advocacy, policy development, and teacher training initiatives. This work complements the Commonwealth of Learning OER project, also proposed on this docket.
