Overview
The Open Mind show, hosted weekly by Alexander Heffner, is a thoughtful excursion into the world of ideas across politics, media, technology, the arts, and all realms of civic life. Premiered in May 1956, it was designed to elicit insights into the challenges Americans face in contemporary areas of national concern. It is the longest-running public media program, broadcast locally for over 50 years. In 2014, The Open Mind took the leap to national distribution and has significantly increased its audience. It is now carried nationally and reaches 8 million people on television alone — combined with a growing online audience. It is disseminated globally across YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Apple Podcasts. During the term of this grant, The Open Mind will be able to continue its weekly broadcast and expand digital efforts.
