Overview
This grant to the Lugar Center will support the relatively new organization’s work on finding solutions to global problems that will define the 21st century. Over the next two years, the Lugar Center will focus in four main areas: 1) global food and energy security; 2) control of weapons of mass destruction; 3) foreign aid effectiveness; and 4) improving the quality of policy debate in Washington.

The Lugar Center’s mission is to educate and motivate the public, global policymakers, and future leaders on critical issues such as global food security, foreign aid effectiveness, nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and bipartisan governance. Through leadership and engagement in the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network, the Lugar Center will promote aid effectiveness principles such as accountability, transparency, and learning; educate policy makers; and hold government agencies accountable for their commitments.

The Lugar Center, formed in 2013 and led by former U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, encourages informed debate and problem solving on global issues and bipartisan governance in the United States. Its governance work includes the Bipartisan Index, which ranks the level of bipartisan legislative co-sponsorships in Congress by member; programs to enhance congressional oversight; and promotion of bipartisanship through public events, training programs, speeches, social media, and other formats.
