Overview
Launched in Australia in 2011 and the U.K. in 2013, The Conversation is an independent source of news and views from academics, delivered directly to the public. Access to independent, high-quality explanatory journalism is essential to a functioning democracy and to much of the Hewlett Foundation’s programmatic work. The Conversation’s editors work with universities and research institutes to translate their research and expertise into concise articles for public consumption, with the aim of improving understanding of current affairs and complex issues. Content is free to access and to republish under Creative Commons. Through republishing, The Conversation now reaches, across its current U.K. and Australian locations, 5.1 million monthly viewers. This grant would support its launch in the U.S.
