Hosted by Teachers College, The Hechinger Report is a nonprofit news organization focused on covering innovation and inequity in U.S. education. The outlet publishes articles on early childhood to higher education, including a weekly column on research, regular podcasts and a robust array of opinion pieces. This grant will support Hechinger in creating a stable foundation to continue producing and telling stories, as part of a larger effort to help policymakers and the public understand what’s working in education and why.

for implementation and replication of instructional reforms in developmental education
Fewer than half of all students entering college graduate in a timely fashion. For those in community colleges, completing remedial education is one of the biggest barriers to a degree. This grant would help the Community College Research Center study and replicate deeper learning interventions that improve community college completion rates among underprepared students. The Center will (1) help expand three intervention models with high potential to eleven colleges in up to five states, (2) forge a partnership with community college reform initiatives to adopt these models, and (3) conduct impact and implementation studies of the results.
for support of research on the impact of the Reimaging Education Summer Institute
Teachers College, Columbia University has faculty experts on issues of race and education whose work in the field individually and collectively seeks to reimagine education for a more racially just society. The Reimagining Education Summer Institute seeks to provide the knowledge, support, and community of professionals needed to become a racially literate, culturally relevant, and anti-racist educator. This grant will support research into understanding how educators that have attended the institute take lessons back and implement systemic school site and district-level transformations. for support to advance civic education and close civic education opportunity gaps
The Center for Educational Equity at Teachers College, Columbia University, champions children’s right to a meaningful opportunity to graduate from high school prepared for college, careers, and civic participation. The center’s previous efforts to prepare all students for civic participation and to close civic education opportunity gaps have included state-level civic education equity initiatives in several states. This grant will support a coalition of students, parents, and educators in New York that will publish a media literacy report and engage stakeholders with their findings.
