Overview
Through the power of storytelling, Streetside Stories cultivates young people’s voices, develops their literacy and arts skills, and fosters educational equity. In-school and after-school programs focus on young people who attend struggling k-12 schools in under-resourced neighborhoods. Streetside Stories reaches a diverse population: 97% of its students come from communities of color and 88 percent come from low-income families. Renewed support would allow Streetside to plan for the end of a long-time and significant US Department of Education grant and strategically restructure to ensure its longevity.
