State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education

The State Education Agency Directors of Arts Education is the member organization for employees of state departments of education who are responsible for arts education in their respective states. The organization is the fiscal sponsor for Quadrant Research, which leads the Arts Education Data Project, a publicly accessible dashboard that provides data on the current condition of arts education in the United States. It tracks and standardizes data on arts education enrollment and course availability, enabling analyses and state-by-state comparisons that support advocates, parents, students, teachers, and researchers. This grant advances the Performing Arts Program’s Youth strategy through its Policy and Advocacy substrategy, by supporting the inclusion of data from the California Department of Education in its dashboard and analyses.

Using existing data from state departments of education, Quadrant will aggregate and present it in a user-friendly, web-based format, allowing advocates, parents, students, and teachers to view their school, district, and county’s arts education resources. California is one of four pilot states. This grant will support the aggregation of data and development of a website illustrating arts education access in California public schools.

SEADAE is the fiscal sponsor for Quadrant Research, which is leading the Arts Education Data Project — a landmark research project that aims to provide a national baseline for arts education access in public schools. Quadrant Research’s user-friendly, online database shares California Department of Education data on arts education enrollment and course availability with advocates, parents, students, and teachers. This grant will support the ongoing maintenance of the web platform, data cleaning, and annual addition of new data.
