for Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits
A fiscally sponsored project of the Seventh Generation Fund for Indigenous Peoples, Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits supports the development and presentation of artistic, social, and cultural activities for intertribal Two-Spirit people and their supporters. Through these activities, the organization aims to recover the role of Two-Spirit people within the American Indian community. Bay Area American Indian Two-Spirits originated the first and largest yearly Two-Spirit powwow in the world. Over 5,000 artists, community members, and supporting audience members typically attend the powwow, which features dancers, musicians, singers, crafters, and other culture bearers. The organization also provides year-round workshops and gatherings for drumming and chanting, regalia-making, dancing, and community building. This grant advances the Performing Arts Program’s Artists strategy.
