Overview
Founded in 1928, the Santa Rosa Symphony (SRS) consists of 70 musicians performing 7 triple series concerts of classical music each year, several including world famous soloists. In addition, SRS includes four different youth orchestras and provides a music education program such that nearly 50,000 Sonoma County residents attend SRS events each year. Led by Maestro Bruno Ferrandis the orchestra performs at the Wells Fargo Center but anticipates becoming the orchestra in residence at the Green Music Center, set to open on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park in 2012. With a $3 million annual budget the SRS is one of the largest budget regional symphonies of the 120 operating in California, and avoided incurring operating deficits despite 10-15% declines in endowment income and individual contributions caused by the recession due to active Board support and astute executive leadership. With renewed support the SRS will transition from its long time venue to a new home in a new town and will expand programming to include regular programming of local, national and international musicians at the North Bay’s premier concert hall.
